Can Chelsea seal qualification against an out of form Roma Side?
Roma are having the worst start to the season perhaps in the club’s history. They are getting turned over week in week out by the lesser sides in the Italian Serie A. In the last few seasons they have been strong title contenders but it is difficult to pin down what has gone wrong this year.
Chelsea on the other hand are flying high. This weekend they have returned to the top of the English Premier League with a stunning 5-0 victory over Sunderland at Stamford Bridge. In recent seasons they have lacked the goal scoring prowess of teams such as Manchester United and have tended to grind out 1-0 wins rather than sealing the ties early. This season they are firing on all cylinders and have a goal difference of +23 scoring 27 goals and only conceding 4. That is truly amazing form.
Roma at this stage have very little to play for. Relegation is unlikely and they have very little chance of finishing in the top 4 this season. The Champions League is 1 thing they do have going for them and will fight to stay in this competition. Chelsea are a far superior side to Roma but this is the only thing the Italian side has left in the 2008/2009 season so fully expect them to fight for it. Chelsea have more or less a full strength team and Scolari will have a difficult job deciding who will feature. Didier Drogba is now fit once again but will be forced to fight for his place against the likes of Anelka and Kalou. With the depth of the Chelsea squad many other world class players will find themselves in this position.
The prediction for this match will be under 2.5 goals. Roma will give a good account of themselves and will spend the majority of the match keeping Chelsea out. Chelsea should outclass the Italian side but Roma will aim to keep the match tight and looking to leave with at least a point.
