Manchester City are enjoying their newly found status as the richest football club in the world but can they overcome tradition.
With a few new additions to the squad and a vast injection of confidence Manchester City have been more than a match for most Premiership clubs since the transfer window closure. Portsmouth who they faced the week before last are considered by many as one of City’s closest rivals in their battle for European football and a spot in the English Premier League top 4. They handed Pompey a 6-0 thrashing at Eastlands and looked like a team capable of good things. Consider last weekends slip up to Wigan a blip. This weekend they host Liverpool who are currently joint league leaders with Chelsea. If Manchester City want to prove that they are capable of putting on a decent challenge this season then they need to bring in the results against the top sides and this will come at Eastlands on home soil. A few weeks back the got a little careless when they found themselves 1-0 up against Chelsea on Robinho’s debut only to finish the game getting thrashed 3-1. Manchester City manager Mark Hughes will when to prove to his new bosses that he is capable of handling the responsibility of being the leader of the wealthiest club in the world and what better way to do this but to defeat Liverpool and potentially move up to 2nd place in the league.
At this stage in the league it is too early for this to happen so a draw is the more likely outcome. Liverpool have a near fully fit squad and of course some of the best players in Europe but they have been too consistent this season so far a this Sunday they will not take all 3 points.
