This is a bottom of the table clash with a lot at stake! Wigan currently sit in 17th position with Newcastle just inside the relegation zone in 18th. Last weekend neither side was able to claim victory. Wigan saw out a goalless draw with Stoke whilst Newcastle suffered a defeat at the hands of Fulham.

Newcastle have been on the climb just lately. Results have not been fantastic but they have at least started heading in the right direction. Despite a poor start to the season the Newcastle side is far superior to that of Wigan and this is a match they will want to win. Home advantage is key here and even though Wigan have been better on the road this season than at the JJB.

On the injuries front the Newcastle side will be more or less unchanged from last week. They picked up no new injury concerns last week. Wigan only have a single player on the injury list in Edman so will have more or less a full strength squad to choose from. This match will go down to home advantage and the greater quality of the Newcastle side.
