Arsenal 1 Everton 0
Arsenal have had more success against Everton than any other club in the Football League and today was to be no exception.
With very little left for Arsenal to achieve this season they began with a very depleted side. Cesc Fabregas amongst others watched the game from the side lines. Everton needed just 1 point to secure their place in Europe next season and get themselves out of Villa’s reach.
With a few players missing as they usually do at the Emirates Arsenal completely dominated the first half give little possession or opportunity to Everton. Some confident play from Joleon Lescott and Tim Howard frustrated Arsenal and ensured that they would not go in for the break in front.
In the second half the Everton side grew in confidence and started to get themselves into the game. Andy Johnson the lone striker was dangerous on the break as Everton started to find good opportunities. Arsenal have never had a 0-0 draw at the Emirates and this was starting to look like a possibility but on 76 minutes Nicklas Bendtner headed home a crossed ball from Armand Traore giving Arsenal a victory for their final home game.
Goal keeper Jens Lehmann went out for a lap of honor following the match as this might be his last home game Arsenal.
Final score Arsenal 1 Everton 0.
