Aston Villa 5 Birmingham 1
Aston Vila crush Blues in the Birmingham derby.
Today’s game had all the ingredients for the classic derby. Villa aiming for qualification into Europe and Birmingham fighting to avoid relegation. From the off it was clear that both sides were in this for the win.
Villa opened the scoring on 28 minutes with a strike from Ashley Young almost bursting the back of the net from the edge of the 18 yard box. Just before the break John Carew put them 2 in front heading home a free kick doubling the lead.
The second half had more to come. It was clear that this was not to be Birmingham’s day when just 8 minutes in John Carew put his name on the score sheet for the 2nd time in the match tapping in a cross from Gareth Barry.
A goal fest was on the cards when on 63 minutes Ashley Young netted his second and put himself onto a hatrick. His first shot rebounded off Blues keeper and he hit the target on the 2nd attempt.
Forssell gave a little bit of pride back to the visitors on 67 minutes slotting it past Villa keeper Scott Carson but it was to be short lived. Gabby Agbonlahor wanted in on the action and wrapped up the scoring with the goal of the match. A neat bit of footwork on the edge of the box and the perfect strike.
