Everton have come off the boil of late so can Middlesbrough capitalise?

Everton are not the force they were 2 weeks ago. They are still not being beaten but they have only won 1 in their last 5 Premier League fixtures. Manchester United are the only team to beat them in this period but they have only managed 8 points of a possible 15. Mid week they took on Blackburn and had to settle for a 0-0 draw. In the last round of the FA Cup Everton recorded a great 3-1 result over Aston Villa.

Middlesbrough have been poor for most of the season but have had a little fortune of late. They are now 19th on 26 points and are just a point from safety. Over there last 2 weeks they have won 2 matches which is great form for them when you think that that they have only won 1 league game in their last 17. They returned to usual form however mid week when they took a 4-0 thumping from Tottenham. In the last round of the FA Cup they took out West Ham with a 2-0 replay fixture at the Riverside.

SoccerEngine.net Free Soccer Pick

Now that the Gunners have found the back of the net will they unleash their fury on Burnley?

Both Arsenal and Burnley are a game behind all of the other clubs left in the cup due to Arsenal’s previous fixture against Cardiff being called off. Arsenal are currently 5th in the Premier League on 49 points which is now 3 points behind Aston Villa. Villa at one point were 7 points ahead of the Gunners and looked to have the 4th Champions League spot sealed. They also have the issue of Everton hot on their wheels and every point has become crucial. Arsenal had some good fortune mid week as Aston Villa lost and Everton drew giving them a little breathing space for this FA Cup fixture. Arsenal have only managed to win 1 game in their last 5 but are now undefeated in 14. On Tuesday night they beat bottom of the league side West Brom by 3 goals to 1.

Burnley have been just above average in the Championship but have shown good resilience in the Cup competitions. In the league they are in 7th place on 55 points which is just a single point from the playoff positions. On form they have only won 2 of their last 5 league fixtures but one of these wins came against league leaders Wolves. Their last league result was a 1-0 away win over Blackpool. Burnley have already put out Premier League opposition. In the last round of the competition they put out West Brom.

SoccerEngine.net Free Soccer Pick
Home win. Now they have finally found the back of the net Burnley should be a fairly straight forward task for the Gunners. Over 2.5 Goals.

With Manchester United winning everything at the moment can Fulham stop the unbeaten streak and put them out of the FA Cup?

Fulham are currently 10th in the Premier League and enjoying a better than usual season. The league is still tight however and although in the top half of the league they are only 7 points off the relegation zone. Fulham played Manchester United just a couple of weeks ago and were ripped apart 3-0. Their form is worse than back then. They have now won just 1 game in their last 5 and so confidence will be low. Midweek they took on Hull and lost by a goal to nil.

The newly appointed Carling Cup champions Manchester United are winning everything at the moment. They are top of the Premier League with a 7 pointy gap over Chelsea and Liverpool. They have won their last 11 games straight and are undefeated in 16. Midweek they faced Newcastle where they went a goal down before eventually winning the game 2-1. In the last round f the FA Cup they hammered Derby 4-1. One factor that could affect their performance is next week’s clash with Inter. Their Champions league tie is in the balance at 0-0 and both the manager and the players will be looking ahead to this. But this said United’s squad depth and youth talent should still be too much for Fulham.

An unpredictable tournament sees a more predictable final as Pompey beat Cardiff by a goal to nil at Wembley.

This tournament has produce more shock results than any other in recent times. 2008 has seen giant killing after giant killing, most notably Barnsley victories over both Liverpool and Chelsea.

Portsmouth started the day stong favourites and it was clear that Harry Redknapp put the league to one side to focus on this competition quite a while ago. With the competition dominated by the big 4 for so many years 2008 would see a new winner. Cardiff boss Dave Jones decided against the start of Robbie Fowler who is still recovering from Surgery.

Portsmouth controlled the match and Kanu missed a sitter early on in the first half. The nerves showed in the face of the Pompey boss as the ball was drilled wide. On 37 minutes Nwankwo Kanu got a second opportunity and this time found the back of the net from close range. Just before half time Glenn Loovens put home a corner only to see it disallowed fr hand ball.

Portsmouth had a nervy second half but with Sol Campbell and in form keeper David James protecting the Portsmouth goal Cardiff did not really look like finding the equaliser. Glenn Loovens came close again this time with his head but it was not to be. Cardiff have been the host of this competition for the last few years but they will not be going home with the trophy today.

Final score Cardiff 0 Portsmouth 1.
