Adrian Mutu Force to Pay £13.68 Million in Damages to Chelsea

August 18, 2008

Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu has been told that he must pay former club Chelsea damages totalling £13.68 million for breach of contract. Back in 2003 Chelsea signed Mutu for the fee of £15 million only for him to be sacked a year later for testing positive for cocaine. FIFA have ruled the Romanian to pay Chelsea this fee to which Mutu describes as inhumane. He believes that he has not committed a crime that deserves such a fine.

Adrian Mutu is set to appeal against FIFA’s ruling but Chelsea believe the fine to be just for his actions. The fine is based on loss of earnings and the length of time the player had left to serve on his contract. Mutu has just rebuilt his career since the incident at Chelsea and FIFA’s recent ruling has brought the whole thing back to haunt him.

Jose Mourinho & Inter Milan Want Frank Lampard

July 22, 2008

Earlier in the month Inter boss Jose Mourinho expressed his interest in being reunited with his former mid field ace Frank Lampard. Inter have put in an undisclosed bid for the England international in an attempt to take him to the San Siro. Lampard who has spent all of his career highlights at Chelsea has said that he would love to be reunited with his former boss. Lampard’s mind has gone a little wayward of late as the contract renewal that Chelsea have offered him is not what he expected. Lampard is moving into the later part of his career now and Chelsea have offered him a 4 year contract to continue but he wants longer. He is said to be unhappy with the current 4 year £150,000 a year terms available to him.Jose Mourinho has always been a player’s choice manager. When his exit from Chelsea was announced last season it caused an uproar with his players. Players like Ivory Coast international Didier Drogba made it clear they were unhappy with the decision and expressed interest in their own transfers.Newly appointed manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has said that Frank Lampard is not for sale. Maurinho has said that for the time being it is unlikely that Inter will be able to claim Lampard and that the easier move would be to wait until the player has served out his final year. Inter would have the option to buy out the remaining 12 month period if they so wanted to. It is expected that he will make his next move during the January transfer window.
