Chelsea 2 Manchester United 1

The title race is back on as a 85th minute penalty put Blues level on points with United.Chelsea continue their bid for the 2008 Premiership title and their fantastic unbeaten run at Stamford Bridge with a superb performance against Manchester United today.

 The first half was completely dominated by the home side with Petr Cech having very little to do at all. Wayne Rooney the lone striker looked lost amongst the Chelsea back line. Edwin van der Sar kept United in the game on numerous occasions and Joe Cole hit the post mid way through. Nemanja Vidic who was doubtful before the start of play went into a challenge with Dider Drogba and his head collided with the Chelsea striker’s knee. He was substituted for Hargreaves.

Cheslea deservedly went in front just before the break with a diving header from Michael Ballack and the team held up a Chelsea shirt with the name Pat Lampard on the back as a mark of respect to Frank Lampard’s mother.

United came back however early in the 2nd half with a goal from Wayne Rooney who injured himself in the process and also had to be swapped.

Chelsea continued to apply the pressure and their moment came when on 85 minutes Michael Carrick blocked off a cross in his area with his hand. Chelsea were handed a penalty and with Frank Lampard out Michael Ballack stepped up to take Chelsea’s most important kick of the season. The pressure was on his shoulders but the kick was taken perfectly.

Chelsea then had a nervy 5 minutes of stoppage time to get through but hung on for all 3 points.
