3rd time lucky for Chelsea as they see off rivals Liverpool in extra time at Stamford Bridge. The lineup for the final in Moscow is complete.Chelsea started the game with a slight advantage of 1 away goal. They began with Frank Lampard who has put his emotional week to one side and decided to join his team mates. Liverpool know that scoring is essential tonight and have a team of fresh legs due to rotation plans of Rafa Benitez at the weekend.

Didier Drogba was criticised by the Liverpool manager before kick off and it was him that opened up the scoring and extended Chelsea’s lead. Kalou’s shot rebounded off Reina and Drogba was there to tidy up. Livepool found the equaliser and were able to force extra time midway through the second half. Yossi Benayoun skipped his way around the Chelsea back line and put through Fernando Torres who is night shy of scoring this season.

The full time score was the same as the first leg so extra time was needed to separate the 2 sides. Michael Essien had a goal ruled out minutes into extra time for off side and just a few kicks late Chelsea were award a penalty kick for a challenge on Michael Ballack by Sami Hyypia. Frank Lampard stepped up to take it and the penalty was perfectly struck. It was clear how much that goal meant to him.

Chelsea went into the extra time break 3-1 in front as Didier Drogba slots home is second and almost certainly a slot in Moscow against Manchester United. Liverpool had one last push for Champions League survival when Ryan Babel hit the ball at the Chelsea goal and the ball went in off the hands of Petr Cech.

Just 1 minute of stoppage time to see out and Chelsea were through. Avram Grant dropped to his knees on the final whistle. He had achieved something that Jose Mourinho had not.

The Final in Moscow will be between England’s 1 & 2. Chelsea v Manchester United.

Final score Chelsea 3 Liverpool 2.
