The tournament favourites and 2006 World cup hosts begin their campaign against Poland.
Poland have never defeated the Germans in their history and with the Germans being the red hot favourites to win the title this year it was to be no different in this tournament. Lukas Podolski scored both goals. The first was on 20 minutes when himself and Kloser beat the Polish back line and Podolski neatly finished a squared ball. The second came deep into the 2nd half where Podolski powered the ball into the back of the net from close range.
