Liverpool 4 Arsenal 2 (5-3 Aggregate)

Another Champions League epic at Anfield!!! Arsenal go within 7 minutes of qualification for the semi final but the 2005 champions find a way through in the final minutes.

The last four meetings between the two sides have all ended stalemate and with exactly the same score line of 1-1. With the two sides facing each other for the 3rd time in the space of eight days and a place in the Champions League semi final at stake, something had to give.
With Liverpool having an away goal under their belts the start the game with a small advantage but this was soon struck off with the first goal from Diaby.


 
 
At the end of the first third an unmarked Sammy Hyypia in the middle of the box levels up the tie from a set piece. Once again the scoreboard reads 1-1.


 
 
 Midway through the 2nd half it was time for Fernando Torres to add his name to the score sheet with this perfectly placed strike. The momentum swings in Liverpool’s favour.


 
 
With just 7 minutes until time Emanuel Adebayor hits a major blow to Liverpool’s title hopes levelling the tie at 2-2 and giving Arsenal their 2nd away goal.

 

 
Liverpool continued to press and only minutes from Arsenals goal Ryan Babel brought down in the box handed Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard this chance to put his side through from the penalty spot. 3-2 to Liverpool.


 

 
With defeat starring them in the face arsenal sit back and in the dying minutes Ryan Babel issues the killer blow.
