This has been Liverpool’s worst start to a football season in quite a few years. They were beaten in their opening clash with Spurs and then hammered at home 3 goals to 1 by Aston Villa. In their last match against against Bolton it took a little bit of late brilliance from skipper Steven Gerrard to avoid further embaracement as they clinched a 3-2 victory with an 83rd minute goal. It is difficult to know what to put this down to. They have a deep quality side who are quite well established together but have had real problems so far. It is a confidence thing and something that a couple of good results can iron out.

Burnely have had a great start to their 2009 / 2010 campaign. They are 10th in the league with 2 victories already with of course a win over Manchester United. In their last match they travelled to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea and held strong right up until the last few minutes of the half. Between 44 minutes and 55 minutes Burnley found themselves 3-0 down and were inevitably beaten by the Blues.

Liverpool must win this match if they are to pose any sort of threat this season. They must make this their first win at Anfieldand and restore a little confidence to the side. Like at Stamford Bridge expect the ball to remain in the Burnley half for the majority of the game and the visitors to defend for all they are worth. If Liverpool were to drop points here then fully expect the word “crisis” to be used thought the media next week.
