City claim victory against 10 man Pompey.

Manchester City took all 3 points from this match and what a match it was.  On just 11 minutes a mistake from Portsmouth keeper David James allowed Darius Vassell to shoot into an empty goal. The lead was doubled when Martin Petrov’s toe poked shot took a deflection off Sol Campbell into the back of the net.

John Utaka scored from close range on 24 minutes to reduce the lead to 2-1. Straight after this Hermann Hreidarsson was sent off for a challenge on Vassell and Pompey went into the break with 10 men.

Harry Redknapp’s side had chances to equalise in the second half but on 74 minutes Benjani powered the ball past James to ensure victory for Sven and the home side.
