Manchester United 4 West Ham 1

United keep up the pace and the pressure on Chelsea as they thump the Hammers at Old Trafford with 10 men.

West Ham have been a bit of a bogey side for United over the past couple of seasons although when they played at the end of last season the title race had already been decided. United began with Wayne Rooney rested for the Champions League final against Chelsea so Carlos Tevez begins against his former club.

The unstoppable Christiano Ronaldo put the home side in front on just 3 minutes with a 12 yard strike and then 20 minutes later hit in his second from close range. On 26 minutes the man responsible for keeping West Ham in the Premiership last season made it 3. Carlos Tevez scored a cracker from 25 yards.

At this point it looked like a walk in the park for the defending champions but the match was to take a slight turn. Dean Ashton clawed one back with an overhead kick and Nani was sent off for head butting Lucas Neill.

This made the United half time team talk a little different for Sir Alex Ferguson but it dd not change the course of the match. United kept up the pace and on 58 minutes Michael Carrick made it 4-1.

United keep the pressure on Chelsea with just one game left. Chelsea play Newcastle on bank holiday Monday.

Final score Manchester United 4 West Ham 1.
