Bolton clinch victory in a tight affair at the Riverside.Bolton are handed a life line and with today’s other results move out of the relegation zone. The game started with Gareth Southgate’s side applying the pressure and this continued until the end of the first half.

At around 25 minutes there was a slight delay whilst a man exposing himself in the stand had to be removed.

The second half was a closer contest with both sides having an equal amount of possession and chances.

On 61 minutes Bolton scored the winning goal when Tim Cahill in space heads down a corner and it is poked over the line by Gavin McCann.

Bolton are the only side in the relegation battle to take any points so far this weekend with Birmingham and Sunderland both not in action until tomorrow.
