Newcastle 0 Chelsea 2

Chelsea keep the title race on with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle at St James’s Park.Avram Grant’s side stay hot on the heels of Manchester United and the title race goes down to the very last weekend. Chelsea showed a bit of a lack luster performance in the first half and if they had stayed in that form for the duration the end result and the title race could have been very different. Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda found themselves in shooting positions on a number of occasions but the end ball was always way off target.

The 2nd half was a very different Chelsea and the importance of the game must have sunk in during the break. They played at a much higher tempo showing Newcastle a lot less of the possession. Michael Ballack scored the long overdue first goal when he headed home a free kick from Malouda.

Michael owen came close to leveling up late on and destroying Chelsea’s title hopes as he slid in for a ball blasted across the front of Petr Cech’s goal. But it was Florent Malouda that killed off the match getting got the end of a through ball slotting it into the bottom right corner.

Chelsea will now need a win at Bolton next weekend and hope that Manchester United do not take all 3 points away at Wigan.

Final score Newcastle 0 Chelsea 2.
