Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle United are off to a good start this year notching up there first win after holding Manchester United to a draw last week. Bolton miss out on a golden opportunity.
The first half of the match finished goalless with not a great deal to report on. The game was very tight with few chances and little creativity. Bolton were given the chance to move in front at the turn of the hour when Steven Taylor handled the ball in his own are giving away a penalty kick. Newcastle keeper Shay Given had shown top class goal keeping throughout the game and became the man of the moment when he saved Kevin Nolan’s spot kick.
It was Michael Owen who score the only goal of the game and all 3 points for Newcastle. He came on as a substitute to head the ball home on the end of a cross from Geremi.
