The champions are off with a slender win over Portsmouth.
United have like last season looked a bit out of sorts in their opening Premiership matches. They opened up their campaign with a draw and have been lacking the usual Manchester United fire power.
Portmouth did give United a game but there was only ever going to be one winner in this game. Darren Fletcher score the only goal of the match on 32 minutes. He slid in a cross from Patrice Evra which trickled over the line. Portsmouth scrambled to clear the ball and did get a touch but Fletcher will happily take the goal.
United look a little lost without Cristiano Ronalo. This is looking to be an interesting season.
