The favourites fight off a late attack from Portugal to book their place in the semi final.Germany were 2-0 up in 25 minutes with goals from Bastian Schweinsteiger and Miroslav Klose and entered the break 2-1 lead after Nuno Gomes reduced the deficit to 1. Midway through the second Michael Ballack put the game out of the oppositions reach with his second goal of the tournament. In the closing minutes Hélder Postiga scored a consolation goal as Portugal bow out.
