The team looked out of shape and it was if they had not played together in 6 months. Sunderland on the other hand looked very different. They dominated possession and were putting together neat strings of passes. Sunderland had chance after chance and looked like they wanted it more than liverpool.
In the second half Liverpool did seem to wake up a little but still rarely troubled the Sunderland defence. It took a single piece of shear brilliance to take the game and it was done by last season’s wonder kid Fernando Torres. In the 83rd minute he struck the ball from 35 yards finding the back of the net.
