The hosts bow out in only their second tournament match.

The conditions in which the game was played were awful. With every bounce of the ball came almost a wave of water. Hakan Yakin put the hosts in front. The ball was played across the Turkey goal and it literally stopped on the goal line due to the mud and made for an easy tap in. Semih Sentürk leveled up on 57 minutes with a decent enough header and Arda Turan destroyed the hopes of Switzerland when his deflected shot flew in over the keeper, 90 minutes on the clock.
