The Christiano Ronaldo Latest!
The talk of the Manchester United star moving to Madrid has dominated sports headlines for the last couple of months and has been on his mind throughout the Euro 2008 tournament.Few clubs throughout the world could afford the Portuguese legend. Those that can would have to offer a lot in both cash and the potential to win major competitions to entice the footballing giant. One of the elite clubs that could offer this is of course Real Madrid. Madrid have expressed an interest in Christiano Ronaldo for most of the 2007/2008 season and have made it clear that they will do whatever it take ensure the move to Spain. Manchester United have stated clearly that Ronaldo is not for sale and have been disappointed with the persistence of Madrid agents to the point where they have filed an official complaint to FIFA. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been extremely clear on how he feels towards Real Madrid causing a bit of a stir in relations between the two clubs. Ferguson remains confident Ronaldo will remain at old Trafford even though Madrid have been able to pull off these deals in the past with the likes of David Beckham & Ruud van Nistelrooy.
For the player himself it has been a rather stressful experience. Real Madrid is a club that many dream of being a part of. It is a place where only the cream of football players get to play and become what the Spanish call one of the Galacticos. Ronaldo has expressed his interest in playing for Madrid which has only made matters worse for United. The showing of interest has course a stir between himself and his manager. During the Euro 2008 competition Ronaldo refused contact with Sir Alex in protest to the way in which the situation had been handled. Manchester United have said that financially they will struggle against the Spanish giants since their £45 million signing of Zinedine.
The latest news is that Ronaldo wants to make the move to Spain. Manchester United are standing firmly saying that a contract is a contract. Ronaldo has made comments in an interview describing the scenario as modern day slavery which has caused upset amongst anti slavery organisations. He is pictured in the papers saying “I feel like a slave”, either lay on a beach or driving his £800,000 car.
This ordeal is far from a resolution.
