Newcastle come back from 2 goals down to claim a point at Upton Park.This game had little value for either team with nothing but pride to play for. Kevin Keegan has steadied the Newcastle ship and they have avoided relegation and West Ham’s small shout for European football is over.
West Ham took the lead with a headed cross from Mark Noble and doubled their lead with a great strike from Dean Ashton into the far corner.
The game seemed to be West Ham’s but Newcastle were level before half time. With 5 minute to the break Obafemi Martins beautifully controlled a through ball and lifted it over the top on Newcastle keeper Robert Green. The final goal game 3 minutes later when Geremi headed home a ball from Martins.
The second half had a fair amount of chances but clearly showed that neither side had nothing to play for.
