West Ham beat Wigan Athletic thanks to an early barrage from Dean Ashton.West Ham opened up this season’s campaign with a victory over Wigan and a good display of football. Dean Ashton put the home side in-front with a 2 goal lead in just 10 minutes. It was looking likely at this point that the Hammers would destroy Wigan and more goals looked imminent.
As the match went on West Ham sat back which gave the visitors the chance to pull a goal back and get themselves into the game. Zaki hit a superb volley in the centre of the box giving his side a chance.
West Ham defended well for the remainder of the match and held off the equaliser to claim all 3 points.
